"My Chemical Romance is done. But it can never die. It is alive in me, in the guys, and it is alive inside all of you." - @GerardWay.
Without getting too over dramatic, it does sadden me that I have to quit, because I do love My Chemical Romance and their fans, but the fan site simply isn’t any fun for me anymore. It’s become too big of a part of my life- the happiest, but also the most stressful.
I never expected MCR Updates to be this successful, or this important to me. I never expected to make the friends that I have made, or have as much influence as I do over certain things. At first, I just wanted to be a reliable source of information about the band, and I thought that the fan site would be just a fun thing that I would do in my free time, but it has literally become my entire life, because it’s gotten to be a sort of addiction for me.
With my years of running the fan site, I’ve seen every MCRmy fight, every ignorant rumor, every mean comment. These are also reasons that I have decided to quit. I, by no means, expect everyone to get along- I know that we’re all different, that we all have our own opinions, and that there is the occasional person that thinks it’s funny to spread a rumor to see everyone over react. I just have no desire to continue to read the aftermath of these fights, ignorant rumors, and mean comments.
Half of what I enjoyed most about running this fan site, was reading what fans had to say about what I was posting, and it’ll probably be what I miss the most. Of course, I’m not leaving the internet completely- I’ll still be running several other blogs, and I’m still going to be tracking the MCR tags, so I’ll still see everything that’s going on. In fact, I’ll still post news, or new pictures on my personal blog when I happen upon them, but I’m not going to make it my first priority as it’s been since I made the fan site.
I’ve thought about quitting this fan site multiple times, and I’ve always decided to keep running it until now, because it has made me so happy, but unfortunately, I can’t make a living off happiness. I will be getting a real job soon, and I won’t be able to update my fan site immediately as news comes online, as I’ve been doing- this means that by the time that I get home, most likely, anything new will already be found, and my fan site won’t be needed. I don’t want to become one of those fan sites that just checks other fan sites for news, and re-posts their work, because I know what it feels like to be repeatedly ripped off by fan sites like that.
There aren’t many things that make me happy like this fan site has, and when I find things that I actually enjoy, I tend to obsess over them, which is what I’ve done with MCR Updates, until now. Obsessing over it has made me lose sleep, among other things- I’ve been unnecessarily stressed out about things that I shouldn’t have been, and I realize now that it’s ridiculous, and often not worth it. I know people are probably reading this and thinking that I’m stupid for taking a fan site so seriously, and I honestly completely agree, but the fan site made me happy, and that was all that mattered.
However, now that it’s causing me more stress than anything, I do feel that it’s time to move on from it. I may change my mind- I may not. I may take a few weeks or months off and decide that I’ve made a mistake, and make this letter a big update post of things that I didn’t post while I was “quitting”, or quite possibly, just taking a break. For now, though, I feel like letting the fan site go is the best thing for me to do at this point in time.
People can still get in touch with me, if they need to- if any rumors come up that people want to know if they’re true or not, I can almost always be reached immediately on my personal Twitter. I’m still going to keep up with everything that happens in the MCR world, so I will be able to clear up any rumors, if need be, but for future references, if you hear “news” from another person on the internet, don’t believe it unless you can find an official source of where they got the information that they told you.
I will always adore everyone that I’ve met online by running MCR Updates, and I hope that quitting this fan site doesn’t cost me the friendships that I’ve made. If anyone needs to ask me anything, every way of contacting me is listed on my personal blog, and I’ll always be here for anyone that needs to talk.
Thanks for everything.
