Watch My Chemical Romance perform ‘Every Snowflake Is Different’ on ‘Yo Gabba Gabba’: An EW video exclusive!
-
If you’re anything like us, you’ve been sick of Christmas music for weeks now. Sure, ’tis the season and all, but you can only take so many renditions of “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” before you have to crank up some Mastodon to wash it all away.
But as My Chemical Romance has proven, there is still room for some new seasonal tunes. The New Jersey band will be appearing on a special episode of psychedelic kids’ show Yo Gabba Gabba!, titled “A Very Awesome Christmas.”
They’ll be performing a tune called “Every Snowflake Is Different,” a bouncy, bombastic little rock tune that wouldn’t have been all that out of place on the band’s woefully underrated 2010 album Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys.
With the band dressed in colorful ski gear, “Every Snowflake Is Different” celebrates uniqueness while also turning up the volume and building a healthy post-emo stomp. You can check out the exclusive video premiere of the band’s performance on the show below.
Watch the video HERE.
The Yo Gabba Gabba! episode “A Very Awesome Christmas” airs on Sunday, Dec. 18 at 8 p.m. on Nick, Jr. In addition to My Chemical Romance, the show will also feature guest spots from Tori Spelling, Mark Motherbaugh, Tony Hawk, Cults, Matt Walsh, and Leslie Hall.

Gerard Way - executive producer for LostAlone’s second album

LostAlone – Derby’s ‘little secret

Meet lead singer and guitarist Steven Battelle, Drummer Mark Gibson and bassist Alan Williamson also known as LostAlone, a band My Chemical Romances’ bassist Mikey Way describes as “a little secret; an awesome thing who are starting to connect with people.”

The Derby trio have already proved their salt in their home town after selling out their homecoming Christmas show which is landing on the 22nd December.

They are currently recording their second album ‘I’m A UFO in This City’ the follow up to 2007’s ‘Say No to the World’, which is due to be released early next year .

With a little help from My Chemical Romances’ Gerard Way - executive producer for their second album, they are sure to make a mark in the rock and punk-pop scene.

The band name is a slight contradiction because they are anything but “Lost” or “Alone”.

Helping them find their way are producers Jacknife Lee and Greg Wells who between them have worked with Katy Perry, Deftones, Weezer and U2.

Lost Alone are definitely not lonely after playing to huge crowds when supporting 30 Seconds to Mars, Paramore, Enter Shikari and My Chemical Romance.

They have also graced several different stages playing the festival circuit and can put T in the Park, Download and Reading and Leeds festival on the CV.

The band marry together a wall of sound with a distinctive accent driven vocal, they know where they are going and will probably take more than a few people with them.

LostAlone are bringing something a little bit different to the table pinching influences from all over the shop they have forming quite an interesting hybrid sound of punk-pop, classic rock and emo style progressive rock.

They seem as if they have settled more on a style, their earlier music was a little confused making flippant switches from indie to emo punk-pop complete with videos showing Papa Roach style shots of eyeliner wearing solemm looking teens.

LostAlone’s new single ‘Paradox on Earth’, has a seasoning of Queen and seems to flow better and follow a narrative with less erratic genre changes in the song, taking the audience with them rather than confusing them.

It is very clear that they have been influenced by My Chemical Romance as their track off their new album could have easily been a B-Side to a song off of Welcome to the Black Parade.

However, this isn’t a bad thing, Gerard must have had a say in their music and has welcomed their slight emulation of the band. The vocals are strong, harmonising is frequent but not tedious. The Derby accents have worked perfectly as they make the vocals stand out and the music more memorable.

Plugging away for over six years, supporting some heavy weights and having some friends in high places they aren’t doing too bad for themselves. And with Iron Maidens’ Bruce Dickinson supporting them it’s sure to win them a few bonus points.

My Chemical Romance Australian Tour 2012 – Big Day Out Sideshows

New Jersey pop punk quartet My Chemical Romance have announced some Australian tour dates while their out here for the Big Day Out 2012 line up. The band will be bringing their popular World Contamination tour too our shores in January.

Now celebrating 10 years as My Chemical Romance, they broke out of the Jersey punk underground with 2002 debut I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love, then 2004’s Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge, before heightening the drama with 2006’s game-changing rock opera The Black Parade.

Just when fans thought they couldn’t take it any further, 2010’s Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys created a whole new world a dystopian, disco-punk future where life is short, cars are fast, and where a raised voice is a lost soul’s best defence.

Still, no matter how much changes for singer Gerard Way, guitarists Frank Iero and Ray Toro and bassist Mikey Way, one thing remains true – The bond between them and their fans is one of those phenomena that outsiders just don’t get.

My Chemical Romance’s Frank Iero Designs Guitar for Charity.

My Chemical Romance guitarist Frank Iero has designed a six-string guitar for Epiphone called the Phant-o-matic. “I took the body from the Wilshire, I took the Anico Humbuckers out of the Les Paul, I put the Les Paul neck on it and headstock, changed the tuners around, and fucked a little bit with the electronics – and we made the Phant-o-matic,” Iero tells Rolling Stone.

As a kid, Iero says he had his dream celebrity guitar, the Kurt Cobain-created Jag-Stang. But being approached by Epiphone to make his own model made Iero think about his family before any guitar legends. “Basically when given this opportunity the first thing that came to mind was my dad buying me my first guitar,” he says. “And the reason I got into music was my grandfather and dads played drums and were in bands forever.”

So, what did his dad say about the Frank Iero Phant-o-matic? “They were like, ‘Are you serious? That’s crazy,’” he says. “My dad was super psyched.” And to pay tribute to his family, Iero is turning the venture into a philanthropic endeavor. “About six years ago my family was affected by multiple sclerosis and that was the first thing that came to mind. The only reason I would be doing this is because of my family, so why not give back?” he says, adding that Epiphone is matching every dollar he gives to MS.

Designing guitars hasn’t been his only recent burst of creativity. He says My Chem have been very inspired of late as well. “Whether it be writing a new My Chem record or working on a different kind of project, there are a couple of things that are coming in the works,” he says. “But I definitely see new music coming out or at least being worked on throughout the rest of this year and hopefully maybe something coming out by summer.”

My Chemical Romance planning new side projects?

My Chemical Romance have said that they may well pursue new side projects as they come to the end of their touring cycle for their fourth album ‘Danger Days: The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys’.

Speaking to Kerrang!, guitarist Frank Iero, who fronts his own side project Leathermouth already, has said that he believes the other members of the New Jersey rockers could follow a similar path.

Asked about the prospect of the other members of My Chemical Romance forming side projects, Iero said: “I can see the other guys branching off and doing other things. Gerard [Way] has his writing, and he has plans for that, but he wants to direct too. And Ray [Toro] is such an incredible talent. I’d love to see him get the credit he’s due. I can see us branching off, but always coming back to this.”

The guitarist also indicated that My Chemical Romance would be recording again soon, adding:

“We’re being very creative right now. There are some really bright and creative things going on. At every soundcheck, we’re coming up with new pieces of music that could turn into something incredible. So we’re hoping to get into the studio soon and really harness that.”

Collaboration with My Chemical Romance’s Frank Iero yields Epiphone Wilshire Phantomatic
-
Whilst Epiphone are, perhaps, more famed for their Casino, Riviera and Sheraton guitars, there are a number of models that they have produced throughout their history that are equally worthy of your attention. The Epiphone Wilshire is one such model. Visually, the Wilshire is the epitome of retro cool, with its own unique styling. And with Alnico Classic and Classic plus pickups, it doesn’t take much effort to dial in classic rock tones. Building on the renewed popularity of the Wilshire, and in collaboration with My Chemical Romance guitarist, Frank Iero, the Epiphone Wilshire Phantomatic has been created.

Gerard Way’s ‘Umbrella Academy’ follow-up confirmed by Dark Horse’s Mike Richardson

Dark Horse Comics president Mike Richardson has teased the future of Umbrella Academy.

Richardson confirmed that a third series of Gerard Way’s Eisner and Harvey Award-winning title is in the works, during an interview with Comic Book Resources.

He could not give a date for its release, citing the My Chemical Romance frontman’s busy touring schedule.

Richardson praised Way’s fresh perspective on comic book writing. “[Way] comes in with amazing ideas and brings a little different twist on what we know as superheroes,” he said.

Way is also working on some more projects for Dark Horse, that Richardson said he could only tease.

“Gerard has some other amazing ideas that we’re also working on,” he said.

Richardson said that the Umbrella Academy movie is still in development. “We want to get the right tone for it,” he said. “We’re very excited.”

K! Exclusive: Michael Pedicone speaks!

Following his dismissal from My Chemical Romance for alleged theft, former drummer Michael Pedicone has issued a statement exclusively through Kerrang.com.

“To the media, my colleagues in the music industry, and, most importantly, the fans of My Chemical Romance.

“As many of you have heard by now, on Thursday evening I was let go as the touring drummer for MCR. The ensuing hours have been difficult for many reasons, but particularly because the actions that led to my dismissal have been twisted and misinterpreted via rumor mongering on the internet. With this, I’d like to put the rumors to rest.

“Almost as soon as I began touring with MCR I ran into problems with a member of the band’s crew who I’ll not name. The problems were many, big and small, but some of them were large enough that they began to greatly impact me and, by extension, my family. I’d reached my wits’ end, and I made what was certainly the poorest decision of my life. Rather than address the issues that I had with the crew member in an open and honest manner, I tried to make them look irresponsible. My intention was to make this person look incompetent. I had no intention of profiting whatsoever. Again, I cannot overstate how poor my judgment was in this situation; it was a tremendous mistake, and it’s one I’ll regret for years to come.

“I would have liked an opportunity to share my side of the story with MCR, an opportunity to express my remorse. I was never given one.

“I’d like to thank MCR’s members, crew, and supporters for giving me some of the best musical experiences of my life in the past several months. However brief our partnership, it was an honor and a dream come true to play with such a talented bunch of individuals. I wish MCR the best of luck in the future, and I’m looking forward to my next endeavor.

Thank you, Michael Pedicone.”
